Central Illinois Farm Beginnings

The Central Illinois Farm Beginnings® program has been run by The Land Connection for over a decade. In that time, they have prepared over 150 people from around the Midwest to start their own sustainable farm businesses, and 80% of those people are still directly involved in farming. The Land Connection partners with Prairie Fruits Farm and Creamery in Champaign to host nine winter sessions, which provides not only a beautiful setting and an example of a successful farm business, but also incredible meals prepared on-farm from local ingredients.

A dedicated staff continues to refine the Central Illinois Farm Beginnings program, bringing in the most experienced voices from around the region to help students write great business plans and find the resources they need to be successful. Mentorship and incubator programs also allow The Land Connection to offer more resources to students as they take their next steps. In addition, The Land Connection’s growth over the past several years means that they are able to offer more training programs and support than ever before. Students get discounted access to all workshops, field days, and intensives, and reduced fees to participate in the new Downtown Champaign Farmers’ Market.
